inTASC Standard 5: Application of Content

Artifact: Intro to Dynamics Lesson Plan (Activity 2: Drum Echo)

Description:

This artifact is a performance-based activity from a 3rd grade music lesson where students echo rhythmic patterns on a drum while adjusting their volume to match different dynamic levels such as soft, medium, and loud.

Rationale:

This artifact demonstrates my ability to support the application of content by providing students with opportunities to actively use their understanding of dynamics in a performance setting. Through the drum echo activity, students apply their knowledge by controlling volume while maintaining rhythm, reinforcing both musical skill and conceptual understanding. This hands-on experience allows students to connect learning to practice, deepening their understanding of how dynamics function in music.

inTASC Standard 6: Assessment

Artifact: Music Dynamics Pre-Test and Dynamics Assessment (3rd Grade)

Description:

These artifacts include a pre-assessment and a post-assessment used in a 3rd grade music unit on dynamics. The pre-test measures students’ prior knowledge of musical terms such as piano, forte, and crescendo, while the post-assessment evaluates their understanding after instruction.

Rationale:

These artifacts demonstrate my ability to use multiple forms of assessment to monitor student learning and growth. The pre-assessment allows me to identify students’ prior knowledge and inform instruction, while the post-assessment measures student progress and mastery of key musical concepts. This approach ensures that instruction is data-driven and responsive to student needs, allowing me to adjust teaching strategies to support all learners.
